Sooooo…3-D super-agent guinea pigs. Hmmm. Who comes up with this stuff??
I can’t tell you how relieved I was to hear my son say that he didn’t want to see G-Force. Thankfully, I think he’s getting to the age where I won’t have to sit through all of the really stupid kid’s movies. I think the two worst ones I’ve seen over the years are “Shark Boy and Lava Girl” and “Super Baby Geniuses 2″. What’s the worst one you’ve had to suffer through?

Hope you had fun with your family over the long 4th of July Weekend!!
We had a great time…lots of food and fireworks!
My parents came to town for a visit. We went to the Community Days celebration over in Webster Groves on Friday night. Isn’t it funny how everyone becomes a big kid at a carnival? My 66-year-old Dad, my 43-year-old husband, and 11-year-old son all seemed to be the same age when they were gleefully crashing into each other on the bumper cars!
Then they had head-to-head competition in the water gun race. My son won a giant pink Patrick (from Spongebob). My mother proceeded to carry around this giant pink monstrosity for the rest of the evening, which resulted in her getting a lot of attention from college guys!

So, we are leaving for vacation next Friday. Packing for a week away from home is a lot harder than it used to be.
I think I’m going to have to pack one bag with electronics alone! With an 11-year-old boy, we absolutely HAVE to have the Nintendo DS, the portable DVD player, and his ipod. Then there’s Mom and Dad’s ipods, too. (I need mine for my runs while at the beach.)
Then there’s the problem of getting enough clothes clean at one time to pack for a week!! (Do I even own enough preferred underwear to pack for 7 days??)
But it will all be worth it when we get to the beach! On arrival, we will throw everything in the condo, and head immediately over to Peg Leg Pete’s for some seafood and a Sandshaker (yummy drink!) and then my rear end will be parked at the water’s edge for the next few days. (except for shopping at the outlet mall, of course!!)
I’m looking forward to the trip even more, since I’ve lost quite a a bit of weight since my last trip. I even bought a bikini…now we’ll see if I have the guts to wear it!!!

I think I broke some kind of record for cramming as many things into the weekend as possible. Check out the rundown:
Friday night: Dance rehearsal, shopping for swimsuit, followed by Little League baseball game, then dinner at 10pm.
Saturday morning: Ran a 5K, cleaned house, went to garage sales, took my Mom shopping, got somewhat non-cooperative 11 year old dressed for dance recital, sat through 4 hour dance recital, dinner at 10pm.
Sunday: Up at 7am, went to grocery store, laundry, ran 2 miles, barbequed pork steaks for lunch, birthday celebration for my Dad, got even more non-cooperative 11 year old dressed for dance recital, sat through 3 hour dance recital, broadcast from Taste of Clayton, double-header Little League games, dinner at 10pm.
I’m glad to be back at work so I can rest!!!

Woo-hoo! Now…what to do with the kid all summer!!??
It sure is different now than when I was a kid. Summer was an expanse of time with nothing planned. Each day was it’s own to fill…and almost all of that time was spent goofing around outside. (with the exception of Saturday morning cartoons, of course!)
Now, it’s a scheduling nightmare. A lot of Moms work…and we have to piece together childcare through the summer months.
And my son’s extracurricular activities don’t slow down in the summer. We have baseball, string bass lessons, off-season football training, performances with his hip-hop dance troupe, and he’s doing a musical at church.
We are taking some time in June for a family trip to the beach…and I plan on parking my behind in a beach chair for the week!!
What are your summer plans??

OK, I have satiated all of my food cravings. One would think that I would be able to stick to my diet really well this week. Check out the list of inappropriate foods I had this past weekend:
BBQ Pork Steak
Potato Salad
Chocolate Brownie
Birthday Cake
Oberweiss Chocolate Sundae
Corn Dog
Cinnamon Wonton w/Ice Cream & caramel sauce
And yet, I somehow managed to LOSE a pound. I did exercise a TON, to try to offset the guilt!!
Hope you had a great weekend!!

…to recover from the weekend!! It was busy, but super fun, too!
It was great to meet so many of you at the various events all weekend. I met so many nice folks in Belleville at the Art on the Square event.
I knew it was going to be a great day on Sunday, because within 5 minutes of arriving at the town square in Belleville, my hubby had a beer, the kid had pizza, and I had pie!!
Thanks to all for the hospitality…hope you have a great week!!

So here’s how I spent my Mother’s Day…
1. I watched my son, dressed in a monkey suit, doing the worm in front of the congregation at Kirkwood United Methodist.
2. Tried on swimsuits with my Mom. No one better to share the humiliation with than Mom. We need to start a movement to get rid of flourescent lighting in fitting rooms.
3. My hopes dashed after numerous semi-public displays of my cellulite, I gleefully wolfed down a cheeseburger at Fitz’s.
4. Since the diet was already compromised, I followed that up with a mini chocolate concrete at Ted Drewes.
5. Apparently, consuming all of those calories can be exhausting…I raced home and immediately passed out on the couch for a two hour nap.
6. I woke up and the guilt set in…so I ran 3 miles. And then went back to bed!
All in all, a nice Mother’s Day. Hope yours was fun!!

So…have you done your Mother’s Day shopping yet? I always have a tough time finding just the right gift for my Mom…I want it to be sweet and meaningful, but she is really practical, so it needs to be useful, too. That’s a hard combo!!
And now that I have been a Mom myself for almost 11 years, I think I have a little insight into what NOT to buy for Mom…
1. Do not buy weight-loss or workout items unless Mom SPECIFICALLY asks for them. Mom doesn’t want to think about the size of her thighs at the Mother’s Day brunch.
2. Any clothing in sizes that are too large…see above.
3. Any small appliance. A new stand mixer isn’t going to encourage Mom to make chocolate chip cookies every day, if she normally cooks only twice a year. The only exception to this rule is the Roomba…because a robot that vacuums is the coolest thing ever!!!
The funniest gift my son ever gave me was when he was about 5 years old. Here’s how I imaging the thought process went: “My mommy loves Elvis…my mommy loves purses…so the perfect gift is an ELVIS PURSE!!!” This particular purse was brown wicker with wooden handles and a large Elvis applique on one side. (and it wasn’t even young Elvis!) I kept it for years, out of fear of hurting my son’s feelings. Last year, I thought, he’s 10 years old now, he won’t mind if I give up the notorious Elvis Purse that has been the King of my closet for 5 years. I attempted to donate it to a charity auction I’m involved in (seeing as though it was still new with the tags on). They said, “No thanks.”!! I finally sold it on ebay and gave the money to the kiddo.
Have a great Mother’s Day and hug your Mom if you’re lucky enough to be with her on Sunday!!

Thanks for playing “Right back where we started from” by Maxine Nightengale! It’s great song for your format. I hope you play it more often.
I like the changes in the songs you play. It’s a better variety!

We lived in the Farmington area for three years and listened to your station all the time and loved it, we moved back to Kansas due to the poor economy and miss the area tremendously, but still listen to your station live on the computer whenever we are home. Keep up the good work you all do an outstanding job for the whole area! We miss listening to your station all the time!
